Luke was on time, considerate upon entering the house, and has a pleasant, friendly manner. He also gave excellent advice and suggestions/options for solving the problem, without "pushing" for one or the other. NEXTPOINT Electrics is to be highly recommended.

Luke at NextPoint was fantastic. Arrived on time both times he's done work, texted first to say he was on his way. Very quick, efficient and tidy with both jobs and a great guy to deal with. Highly recommend and will definitely use him again.

Electrician Fyansford FAQ

Do you actually cover Fyansford?

Yes. We come up and across from Ocean Grove, and there is no travel time on the bill for it. There is no call out fee and no distance loading.

Which parts of Fyansford do you cover?

All of it, the whole 3218 postcode, and the neighbouring towns with it. The old village along Hyland Street and the new estate on the cement works land alike, none of it far enough out to charge extra for.

How quickly can you get to Fyansford?

We come up and across from Ocean Grove, and there is no travel time on the bill for it. We do not promise a set response time, but you get a straight answer on the phone and a time on the day rather than an all day window.

Is there anything particular about the housing here?

Yes, because there are two Fyansfords and they have nothing electrically in common. The old village is nineteenth century, with buildings going back to the 1840s and fifteen heritage overlay entries in a very small area. The new part is Gen Fyansford, an estate on the old cement works land where nothing predates about 2015. In the village the question is what a century and a half of alterations left behind. In the estate it is what the board has left on it. Same postcode, entirely different conversations.

About Fyansford

Fyansford is one of the oldest settled places around Geelong. It takes its name from Captain Foster Fyans, police magistrate from 1837, who set up a camp at the ford where the Barwon and Moorabool rivers meet. There was an inn by 1843, a flour mill in 1844, hotels and a timber bridge by 1854, an orphan asylum in 1861 and a state school from 1877. The timber bridge was replaced in 1900 by a concrete arch designed by Monash and Anderson.

Industry defined it for a century. Cement production started around 1890 after limestone was found at Batesford and shale at Fyansford, a rotary kiln went in by 1911, and the works were making around 900,000 tonnes a year by the 1960s. There was a paper mill at Buckley Falls from 1876 as well. The cement works closed in 2001 and were demolished the same year, apart from some silos on the hill.

For most of its history it stayed tiny. The population was 227 in 1861, 189 in 1933, and still only 196 at the 2016 census.

Then the estate arrived. Gen Fyansford, approved by council in September 2014, is being built across 115 hectares of the former cement works and quarry land with more than a thousand lots at completion. By the 2021 census the population had reached 1,206, roughly six times what it had been five years before. Over eighty per cent of dwellings were freestanding houses and more than half of households were paying a mortgage, which is what a new estate looks like in the numbers.

The practical version for a Fyansford owner: which half of the suburb you are in decides almost everything about the job, so tell us the age of the house when you ring rather than the street.

If you are in one of the heritage overlay properties, raise it early. It rarely stops a job but it changes the order things happen in.
