Flats are a different conversation
Nearly one dwelling in five here is a flat. Where the board sits, what is common property and who has to agree to the work are the first things to establish, and we would rather do that on the phone than on site.

Luke did a great job and was very flexible and understanding of our needs. He listened and was very helpful in explaining answers to our questions. I would highly recommend his work.
Luke was on time, considerate upon entering the house, and has a pleasant, friendly manner. He also gave excellent advice and suggestions/options for solving the problem, without "pushing" for one or the other. NEXTPOINT Electrics is to be highly recommended.
Luke at NextPoint was fantastic. Arrived on time both times he's done work, texted first to say he was on his way. Very quick, efficient and tidy with both jobs and a great guy to deal with. Highly recommend and will definitely use him again.
Luke was super efficient and communication on point. Came around the next day to quote for all ceiling fans replaced and was all done in less than a week. Highly recommend Luke and Nextpoint Electrics!
Absolutely terrific to work with. Luke’s professional manner coupled with friendliness, all the while keeping us updated on progress. Have no hesitation in recommending Luke.
Really impressed with Nextpoint Electrics! Friendly, professional, and got the job done promptly. Highly recommend for anyone needing an electrician you can trust.

What can we help with?
From a board in a 1950s house to a circuit in a walk-up flat. Here is what we do most in Herne Hill.
Why Herne Hill locals choose us
Nearly one dwelling in five here is a flat. Where the board sits, what is common property and who has to agree to the work are the first things to establish, and we would rather do that on the phone than on site.

Got questions? We have answers
Yes. It is a straightforward run for us from Ocean Grove and carries no distance loading. There is no call out fee and no distance loading.
All of it, the whole 3218 postcode, and the neighbouring towns with it. Houses and flats alike, and nothing in it far enough out to be worth charging you extra for.
It is a straightforward run for us from Ocean Grove and carries no distance loading. We do not promise a set response time, but you get a straight answer on the phone and a time on the day rather than an all day window.
One thing stands out in the numbers. At the 2021 census close to nineteen per cent of dwellings in Herne Hill were flats or apartments, which is far and away the highest share of any Geelong suburb we cover, and the average household was 2.1 people, the smallest. That is a lot of walk-up flat blocks alongside the post-war houses. Flats are a different job to a house: the board may not be in your flat, common property may be involved, and what you are allowed to alter is not only a wiring question. Worth sorting out at the start.

Herne Hill has a burial ground from 1858 and a national school from the early 1860s, but for most of its history there was almost nothing here. The population was 112 in 1911, and as late as 1939 there were complaints about straying dairy cows.
It was built out after the Second World War, and the institutions date it precisely: a state primary school and a state technical school in 1954, a Catholic primary in 1955, and Clonard College with its convent in 1956. The population went from 112 early in the century to over three thousand by 2001.
It was also the most westerly part of the former city of Geelong West, and its secondary school began life as Geelong West Technical School in 1954, which is why the two places still feel connected.
The dwelling mix is the distinctive part. Post-war detached houses make up about 71 per cent, but flats and apartments account for nearly 19 per cent, against almost none in most Geelong suburbs, and townhouses only about 10 per cent. Households here are the smallest of any suburb we cover at 2.1 people, and the median age of 36 is among the youngest.
The practical version for a Herne Hill owner: if you are in a flat, find out where your board actually is and whether the work touches common property before anything else.
If the house dates from the 1950s build-out and the board is original, that is the first job rather than the eventual one.
