House Rewiring Geelong

Most houses people think need rewiring need a switchboard. Telling you honestly which one you are is worth more than any quote, because the difference between the two is thousands of dollars.

What the work covers

Rewiring Work We Do Most

Rewiring is about the cable in the walls, not the board on it. Plenty of houses that get quoted a rewire do not need one.

Full house rewire

New cable throughout, new board, new points and switches. The cleanest outcome and the biggest job.

Partial and staged rewiring

Where the whole house is not warranted, the worst runs get done first. You get told what is new and what is not.

Old cable types

Rubber and cotton insulation from certain eras is the thing that actually decides a rewire. It is the cable that ages, not the board.

Board and cable together

A new board on old cable is half an answer. Where both are due, doing them together is cheaper than doing them twice.

Renovations and extensions

Rough in while the walls are open, connect once they are closed. Much cheaper than retrofitting the same work later.

Assessing before committing

We look at what is actually in the walls before saying the word rewire. Sometimes the honest answer is that you do not need one.

Been told your house needs rewiring? Ring and describe what you have got before you commit to it. A second opinion costs you nothing.

How we work

Our Process

  1. You ring and describe it

The age of the house, what is on the board and what has been done to it since. That is where an honest answer starts.

  2. We assess it properly

We look at the actual cable before recommending anything. You get told what needs doing and what does not.

  3. We do the work

In stages if that is the plan. You know at every point which circuits are new and which are still original.

  4. Tested and documented

Paperwork that says the work was tested, and our lifetime workmanship warranty on everything we installed.

On every job, no exceptions

Three Promises on Every Job

  • $0 Call out fee

We come out, look at it and price it. That visit costs you nothing.

  • Fixed Price before we start

One number, agreed before anything begins, GST stated. It does not move.

  • Lifetime Workmanship warranty

If our work is not right we come back and put it right at no charge. No expiry.

Would highly recommend Nextpoint electrics, Luke and his team did an exceptional job. It not often you find somone who takes pride in everything they do from start to finish.

I had an absolute 5 star experience with Luke from NextPoint Electrics. After trying for many years to get my House Switchboard replaced and upgraded, when most other electricians either wouldn't do the work or quoted silly money because it was so involved... Finally I found an experienced and professional Sparky. Reasonably priced, excellent workmanship. I cannot recommend him more highly enough. One very happy customer!

Rewiring questions

Asked most often

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

You mostly cannot tell from inside the rooms, which is the frustrating part. The signs people notice, such as fuses blowing or lights flickering, are more often board or connection problems. What actually decides it is the state of the cable insulation, and that means looking in the roof space and under the floor. That is a visit, not a phone call, and it is worth doing before you spend on anything else electrical.

Can you rewire part of the house?

Yes, and in a house that has been extended it is often the right answer, because half of it may already be modern cable. What matters is knowing exactly which circuits were done and which were not, and having that written down for whoever works on the house next. Partial rewiring is legitimate. Partial rewiring that nobody recorded is a problem for the next person.

Will you have to cut my walls open?

Some, usually less than people fear. Most cable is run through the roof space and under the floor, and in a high-set timber house there is often very little wall work at all. Low-set on a slab is harder, because there is no sub-floor and every drop has to come from above. You will be shown where before anything is opened, and we make good ready for paint.

Do I need to move out?

Usually not. The work is staged so that areas lose power for a day rather than the house losing it for a week, with one full day off for the board changeover. If you have someone home all day, a baby, or medical equipment, say so at quote stage and the sequence gets planned around it. Plenty of people stay in the house through the whole job.

Do you cover my suburb for rewiring?

Yes, anywhere within a short drive of Ocean Grove. The houses where this comes up most are the older stock through Drysdale, Ocean Grove and Queenscliff, and the weatherboard cottages through Queenscliff. The full list is on the service areas page.

Still deciding? Ring and tell us what you have got, and we will tell you what it needs.
