Plenty of older boards cannot take a solar circuit without work. We look before anyone quotes, so the number you get already includes what the job actually needs.

We check the roof, the board and the cable route before anything is fitted. If it is different from expected, you hear the new price first.

How to get it: at the next solar handover, once the system is commissioned and the customer can see it generating, ask for a review and mention the solar so the review says so. Send through the reviewer name and wording exactly as Google displays it and it replaces this block.

Asked most often
Can you get me the government rebate?
No, and you are better off hearing that now than after we have been out. The Victorian Solar Homes rebate and the federal battery discount are both arranged through approved retailers, and we are not one. They come off the price upfront rather than being claimed back afterwards, so if the rebate is the thing that decides it for you, use an approved retailer and do not let anyone talk you out of it. We are worth a call if you are not eligible, if you are replacing an older system, or if you would rather the install was done by the electrician who will still be around to look at it in five years.
Who is not eligible for the rebate anyway?
There is a household income cap and a property value limit, and you cannot claim if the property has had solar put on in the last ten years. Rental properties go through a separate scheme with its own conditions. The thresholds move, and they moved again this year, so check the current ones with Solar Victoria rather than taking our word or anybody else’s for it.
Will solar keep the house running in a blackout?
Not on its own, and this surprises people. A normal grid connected system shuts down when the grid goes down, by design, so it cannot backfeed a line someone may be working on. Running through an outage needs a battery with backup wired in, and even then it is usually selected circuits rather than the whole house. If staying on in a blackout is the point, say so early, because it changes the design rather than being an add on.
How many panels do I actually need?
It is worked out from your usage and when you use it, not from how much roof you have. Send a recent bill with the daily usage figure on it and that answers more than a site visit would. A system sized past what you use exports the surplus, and export is worth much less than it used to be, so bigger is not automatically better.
Do you install outside Ocean Grove itself?
Yes, anywhere within a short drive of Ocean Grove, which takes in Drysdale, Torquay, Wallington, St Leonards and Queenscliff, and the whole of Geelong. A photo of your switchboard with the cover on and a photo of the roof from the ground answer most of what we would otherwise need a visit for.
