Outdoor Lighting Geelong

Outdoor fittings on this coast rarely fail electrically. They corrode. What decides how long yours last is the exposure rating and the materials, not the lamp inside.

What the work covers

Outdoor Lighting Work We Do Most

Outside, the specification matters more than the fitting. Anything mounted in the open here sits in salt air all year.

Sensor and security lighting

Positioned and aimed so it triggers on people rather than on the wind, which is why most sensor lights end up switched off.

Alfresco and entertaining areas

Light you can actually eat under, switched from inside, and rated for a position that gets weather.

Garden and path lighting

Low level lighting along paths and beds, wired properly rather than run off an extension lead from the laundry.

Flood and yard lighting

For sheds, driveways and the bit of the yard nobody can see. Sized so it lights the ground, not the neighbour's bedroom.

Replacing fittings that have failed

Near the water it is usually the fixing or the seal that goes, not the fitting. Stainless fixings and seals that are actually fitted.

Wiring, conduit and underground runs

Where the cable goes is most of the job. Done once, properly, rather than surface run and regretted.

Sensor light that triggers on nothing, or a dark side of the house? Ring and describe it. Most of it can be sorted on the phone.

How we work

Our Process

  1. You ring and describe it

Which part of the outside, what is there now, and what you are trying to light. Most outdoor jobs can be priced from that.

  2. We confirm on the day

We look at the cable route and the exposure before anything is mounted. If it is different from expected, you hear the new price first.

  3. We install and test it

Fittings rated for the position, cable run properly, everything tested and the site left clean.

  4. Guaranteed for life

Our lifetime workmanship warranty covers the installation. If our work is not right we come back and put it right at no charge.

On every job, no exceptions

Three Promises on Every Job

  • $0 Call out fee

We come out, look at it and price it. That visit costs you nothing.

  • Fixed Price before we start

One number, agreed before anything begins, GST stated. It does not move.

  • Lifetime Workmanship warranty

If our work is not right we come back and put it right at no charge. No expiry.

Had luke from next point out to fit some ceiling fans, install some downright in darker areas of my house and he also added a couple of sensor lights on the outside. Luke was very professional from his quote to when he said he could do the work. Turned up on time and well presented. Run me through what was needed and prices and was very professional about it all. Would defintely use again and highly recommend

I've just had Luke from Nextpoint Electrics come and do the electrics on my air conditioner installation. He was very efficient at his job, but the thing I liked was he was a really nice person, which is becoming a rare thing these days. He explained everything in clear and simple terms. If you're looking for a reliable well priced electrician you won't go past Nextpoint and Luke.

Outdoor lighting questions

Asked most often

My sensor light comes on all night. Can it be fixed?

Usually, and usually without replacing it. Most false triggering is aim, height or field of view: it is seeing the street, a moving plant, or a fence panel cooling at dusk. Adjusting the aim, masking part of the sensor's field, or moving the fitting a metre solves the majority. If it has been adjusted properly and still triggers, then the sensor is suspect. Try the cheap fix first.

How long should an outdoor light last near the water?

Less than the same fitting inland, and we will not put a number on it, because it depends on the fitting, the exposure and whether it gets rinsed by rain or just coated by spray. What we can say is that the failure is usually mechanical rather than electrical: fixings and housings go before the lamp does. Choosing for corrosion at the start is the whole game, and it costs less than replacing a cheap fitting twice.

Can you run lighting out to my shed?

Yes, and the question is what is already out there. If the shed has a supply, adding lighting inside it is straightforward. If it has nothing, the real job is the run to the shed, which needs the right cable, protection at both ends and a decision on overhead versus underground. On acreage at Curlewis, Wallington or Wallington that distance is often the largest part of the price, so mention it early.

Is low voltage garden lighting worth it?

For garden beds and paths, often yes. It is easier to extend later, the cable is less demanding to run, and it suits the low light levels that make a garden look good at night. It is not the answer for security lighting or for lighting a work area, where you want mains fittings doing a real job. Plenty of houses end up with both, doing different work.

Do you cover my suburb for outdoor lighting?

Yes, anywhere within a short drive of Ocean Grove, including the coastal strip at Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove, Torquay and Barwon Heads, out to Clifton Springs and Portarlington, and everywhere else on the service areas page.
