Luke did a great job and was very flexible and understanding of our needs. He listened and was very helpful in explaining answers to our questions. I would highly recommend his work.

SPStephen PoorePosted on Google★★★★★

Luke was on time, considerate upon entering the house, and has a pleasant, friendly manner. He also gave excellent advice and suggestions/options for solving the problem, without "pushing" for one or the other. NEXTPOINT Electrics is to be highly recommended.

Luke at NextPoint was fantastic. Arrived on time both times he's done work, texted first to say he was on his way. Very quick, efficient and tidy with both jobs and a great guy to deal with. Highly recommend and will definitely use him again.

Electrician Whittington FAQ

Do you actually cover Whittington?

Yes. It is a short run across for us from Ocean Grove, and there is no travel time on the bill for it. There is no call out fee and no distance loading.

Which parts of Whittington do you cover?

All of it, the whole 3219 postcode, and the neighbouring towns with it. Across the whole of it, and nowhere in Whittington is far enough from us to be worth charging you extra for.

How quickly can you get to Whittington?

It is a short run across for us from Ocean Grove, and there is no travel time on the bill for it. We do not promise a set response time, but you get a straight answer on the phone and a time on the day rather than an all day window.

Is there anything particular about the housing here?

Yes. Whittington expanded rapidly in the 1960s and over 500 Housing Commission units were built here in that period, which is the single fact that shaped the suburb. At the 2021 census about 44 per cent of households were renting and the median weekly household income was well below the state figure. Practically, that means a good share of the work here is for renters and landlords rather than owner-occupiers, and it means safety switch protection and compliant alarms come up more often than discretionary work. We treat those as the priority they are.

About Whittington

Whittington was named early in the 1920s after James Whittington, an early landowner, and a post office had carried the name since 1914. The district had previously been called Breakwater and St Albans.

The suburb as it stands was built in the 1960s, when residential expansion was rapid and over 500 Housing Commission units went up. The state primary school did not open until 1978. A large part of the suburb is laid out in cul-de-sacs and courts, deliberately, to slow traffic and create neighbourhood reserves between them.

Its southern portion was excised in 1999 to become St Albans Park, which is why census figures before and after that date are not comparable.

One notable building remains from well before all of it. The St Albans Gatehouse at 305 Wilsons Road was built in 1890 and 1891 for the pastoralist John Crozier as the gate lodge to the St Albans Stud, in dichromatic brickwork with an octagonal coved tower and belfry, and it is on the Victorian Heritage Register as one of the finest gate lodges in Victoria.

At the 2021 census the population was just under four thousand across about 1,874 dwellings, roughly 90 per cent of them freestanding houses with the balance units and flats, and the median age was 42.

The practical version for a Whittington owner: if the house dates from the 1960s expansion and the board is original, that is the first job and the rest depends on it.

If you are renting, safety switch protection and working smoke alarms are your landlord's responsibility and they are not optional. We are happy to tell you plainly what is required.
