Luke did a great job and was very flexible and understanding of our needs. He listened and was very helpful in explaining answers to our questions. I would highly recommend his work.

SPStephen PoorePosted on Google★★★★★

Luke was on time, considerate upon entering the house, and has a pleasant, friendly manner. He also gave excellent advice and suggestions/options for solving the problem, without "pushing" for one or the other. NEXTPOINT Electrics is to be highly recommended.

Luke at NextPoint was fantastic. Arrived on time both times he's done work, texted first to say he was on his way. Very quick, efficient and tidy with both jobs and a great guy to deal with. Highly recommend and will definitely use him again.

Electrician Drumcondra FAQ

Do you actually cover Drumcondra?

Yes. It is a short run for us up from Ocean Grove through Geelong, with no distance loading on it. There is no call out fee and no distance loading.

Which parts of Drumcondra do you cover?

All of it, the whole 3215 postcode, and the neighbouring towns with it. All nine streets of it, and none of them far enough out to be worth charging you extra for.

How quickly can you get to Drumcondra?

It is a short run for us up from Ocean Grove through Geelong, with no distance loading on it. We do not promise a set response time, but you get a straight answer on the phone and a time on the day rather than an all day window.

Does being this close to the bay change anything?

On this street more than most. Drumcondra is the smallest suburb in Geelong, about a third of a square kilometre, and a good part of it faces straight out over Corio Bay. Anything mounted on a bay-facing elevation is in salt air all year: outdoor points, lighting, meter boxes and the fixings holding them up. What fails is almost always the fixing or the seal rather than the fitting, which is why it is worth specifying properly the first time rather than twice.

About Drumcondra

Drumcondra is the smallest suburb in Geelong, about a third of a square kilometre holding roughly 250 dwellings across nine streets, looking out over Corio Bay. It takes its name from Drumcondra in Dublin.

It is also younger than people assume. The first house went up in 1912. What came before it was a single property: Lunan House, built in 1849 and 1850 by the architect Charles Laing for the pioneer woolbroker James Strachan, in Barrabool freestone ashlar over rubble stone, and one of the earliest uses of that sandstone for ashlar work. The house is on the Victorian Heritage Register and served for many years as the Geelong Teachers' College. The suburb is what happened when the Lunan estate was subdivided from around 1911 and 1912 onward.

So the housing is largely twentieth century on nineteenth century ground, detached houses on individual blocks with a small townhouse and apartment component added since. The Esplanade is elevated with bay views and holds some of the most valuable real estate in Geelong.

At the 2021 census the median age was 50, the oldest of any Geelong suburb we cover. It is a settled, small, largely owner-occupied pocket rather than a growth area, and the electrical work here reflects that: houses that have been held a long time, improved gradually, and sitting in salt air the whole while.

The practical version for a Drumcondra owner: on a bay-facing elevation, specify outdoor gear for the position rather than to a general standard. It is the difference between replacing it once and replacing it repeatedly.

If the house has been held a long while and improved in stages, expect the wiring to be layered rather than uniform, and get the board looked at before adding anything substantial.
